IEK Membership Categories
Honorary Members
An Honorary Member shall be a person, not being an engineer, who has rendered conspicuous service to the Institution or the profession of Engineering or is eminent in engineering or in public service.
Fellows
Every candidate for election or transfer to the class of Fellow shall satisfy the Council that they have been a Corporate Member of the Institution for at least seven (7) years.
Corporate Members
Whenever the term “Member” is used without qualification, it shall exclude Honorary Members, Companions, Associates, Graduates, and Students.
Companions
The Members of the Institution shall consist of Founder Members who satisfy the conditions for Membership as stipulated in Section 4.
Associates
Every candidate for election or transfer to the class of Associate shall satisfy the Council that they are not qualified for admission as a Corporate member and have at least 10 years of experience in a position of responsibility related to engineering.
Engineering Technologists
Every candidate shall be eligible for registration as an engineering technologist if they hold a degree in Technology in Engineering or other qualifications from a recognized program of study.
Engineering Technicians
Every candidate shall be eligible for registration as an engineering technician if they hold a diploma in Engineering from a recognized program of study.
Graduate Engineers
Every candidate for admission or transfer to the class of Graduate shall satisfy the Council that they hold one of the educational qualifications prescribed in Bye-Law 4.03 (b).
Graduate Engineering Technologists
Every candidate for admission to the class of Graduate Engineering Technologist shall satisfy the Council that they hold a degree in Technology in Engineering from a recognized program of study.
Graduate Engineering Technicians
Every candidate for admission to the class of Graduate Engineering Technician shall satisfy the Council that they hold a diploma in Engineering from a recognized program of study.
Students
Every candidate for election to the class of Student shall satisfy the Council that they are receiving adequate instruction in the theory of Engineering through a recognized engineering program.
