    Eng. Shammah Kiteme, President

    Eng. Shammah Kiteme is the President of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). He is a skilled civil structural engineer in practice. He has more than 15 years of experience in the fields of waste water treatment and structural engineering.  

    He has provided consultations in Kenya and other African nations. Using diverse teams of engineers from several nations, he has completed important projects.   

    Eng. Shammah He holds certifications from Project Management International—USA as a qualified PMP® ’ and the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) as a licensed consulting engineer.

    Eng. Shammah, a fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, has led the engineering field in the creation of technical standards, specifications, and design evaluations. This includes his nomination to the National Committee on Implementation of Eurocodes, where he will serve as a committee member.

    Eng. Shammah Kiteme writes opinion pieces in the dailies and has written articles in all the major dailies. He regularly comments on Engineering and infrastructure matters in TV talks and other media Interviews.

    Eng. Shammah Chairs a committee on Construction Working Group under the Federation of Africa Engineering Organizations (FAEO). He was also appointed by the PS Public Works to be a committee member of the National Committee on finalization of the Building Code. The Building Code 2024 was published on 1st March 2024.

    Eng. Harrison Keter, 1st Vice President 

    Eng. Harrison Keter is the 1st Vice President, Institution of Engineers of Kenya.He is currently the Assistant Operations Manager, Geothermal at Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC. 

    He is a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). He is also a professional member of Geothermal Association of Kenya (GAK) and Institution of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Kenya (IET). 

    Eng. Keter has extensive experience in the energy sector spanning over 17 years. His areas of expertise ranges from electromechanical engineering projects, project management with specialization in design, development, operation and maintenance of power plants and renewable energy technology, particularly in Geothermal, hydropower and solar energy technologies.

    He holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering (UoN) and post graduate Diploma in Geothermal Technology and Utilization (UNUGTP). He is currently pursuing an MSc. in Energy.

    Eng. Christine Ogut is 2nd Vice President, Institution of Engineers of Kenya. She works as Deputy Director Safety Audits and Inspections at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).  

    She is an accomplished, result-driven Civil Engineer with over 30 years’ engineering work experience. Eng. Christine Ogut has served as Chief Officer Roads, Transport & Public Works as well as Chief Officer Environment, Energy & Water, Nairobi County Government. Eng. Ogut has also worked as Director, Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company and Manager (Roads) at Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).   

    As a past 1st President of Africa TechNet, she provided training opportunities for technical officers in Africa. She is a member of WFEO Standing Technical Committee on Environment. 

    At IEK, she has served as the Chair of the Women Engineers Chapter, in the Governance Audit and Risk Committee, as member of Capacity Building and Mentorship Committee, member of Events and Conference Committee and as a leading mentor for graduates and women engineers.  

    She is panelist for professional interviews (in Civil Engineering), an advocate for engineers’ welfare and a strong proponent of additional Continuous Professional Development (CPD) score areas, as well as a champion for Engineers’ rights (professional, employee & membership rights).   

    Eng. Ogut is passionate about promoting Science, Technology and Mathematics Education (STEM) and engineering education in schools and universities. Her driving vision is Professional Excellence in Engineering.

    Eng Jacton Mwembe is the Honorary Secretary of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. He is a Civil Engineer from the University of Nairobi with over Nineteen (19) years’ of practical experience. He is registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya, Corporate member Institution of Engineers of Kenya, Associate Member with Chartered Institute of arbitrators and Corporate Member Architectural Association of Kenya-Engineers Chapter.®.  He has a post graduate Diploma in Environment Health and Safety Management, ISO 9001:2015 Certification, ISO 45001:2018 certification, OSHA Fundamentals on Managing Risk of Fire Emergencies, Health and Safety - Achieving Goal Zero UNOPS, Post Graduate training in Advanced Entrepreneurship Program (Strathmore University) and Leadership (Key Step Media). 

    He has previously served as Secretary (Architectural Association of Kenya - Engineers Chap.). Member (Governing Council AAK), Registrar- AAK(E), Chairperson (Research and Advocacy Committee AAK(E)), Chairperson (Membership and Registration Committee AAK(E)), Jury (Wood Architect Rockstars Initiative aimed at assessing the viability of wood as an alternative building material) and Member of the Taskforce on Pending Bills, Lands and County Assets Verification for the County Government of Homa Bay.  

    He is the Principal Partner at Thatch Consultants Ltd, Managing Director Mwembe & Mwembe Ltd and founder of The Mwembe Foundation. Eng. Jacton Mwembe has experience in a number of key sectors including Maritime Engineering, Geothermal infrastructure, Hydroelectric power Infrastructure, Buildings, Seaports, Airports, Engineering Management, Feasibility Studies, Master Plan Development, Engineering Designs, Supervision, Geotechnical Investigations, Topographical Surveys, Audits and Design reviews. Eng. Jacton Mwembe is passionate about championing for Engineering Safety and Sustainability.

    Eng. Jeniffer Korir is the Honorary Treasurer of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). Eng. Jennifer is a Professional Engineer (Civil) and a corporate member of IEK, with over 18 years’ experience in the field, 14 years being in the road sector 

    Eng. Jeniffer holds a BSc. (Civil Engineering) and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Transportation at the University of Nairobi, undertaking research on NMT and smart cities.

    Eng. Prof. Christopher Maina Muriithi, MIEK, PE, is an accomplished Professor of Electrical Engineering with over 22 years of experience in academia and research. Currently serving as an Ordinary Council Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) for 2024-2026. 

    He has a strong background in engineering education, coordinating research grants and projects, training engineers, and supervising postgraduate students. Eng. Prof. Chris is a Corporate Member of IEK and a registered Professional Electrical Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).  

    Passionate about STEM education, Eng. Prof. Muriithi focuses on mentoring and promoting robotics for pre-college Engineering and Technology exposure. His research interests include power system modeling and analysis, renewable energy technologies, with expertise in leveraging artificial intelligence applications.  

    Proficient in several power system simulation software, he is also licensed in solar photovoltaic systems design and installation with EPRA.  

    Eng. Prof. Maina is the current Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology at Murang'a University of Technology. He also chairs the MUT TVET Board of the MUT TVET Institute and is a member of the University Board of Management. Eng. Maina also offers consultancy services through Doch Sustainable Solutions Ltd. 

    Eng. Prof. Maina’s ultimate aim is to integrate Christian values into engineering practices for societal betterment.

    Eng. Lilian Mumbua Kilatya is an IEK Ordinary Council Member. She is a professional Civil Engineer, currently working for the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) as a Quality Assurance Expert.  

    She previously worked for local civil engineering consultancy firms as a Civil/Structural Engineer and has seven years’ experience in Structural and Civil design, supervision of construction projects, concrete mix designs and quality control of construction materials and processes. 

     As the KEBS Civil Engineering Forum chairperson, she steers discussions revolving around registration of engineers and other interests. 

     Her vision is to have an inclusive and cohesive engineering fraternity where the welfare of engineers and the profile of all engineers are enhanced. She is passionate, diligent and a progressive leader.

    Eng. Jennifer Gache is an IEK Ordinary Council Member; a regional expert in Industrial Development and Energy Sectors. Eng. Gache works for GFA Consulting Group, subcontracted by GIZ to support implementation of the ‘Support to the East African Market-oriented and People Centred Integration Process- SEAMPEC’ in the East African Community (EAC) comprising Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.  

    She is passionate about increasing intra-EAC regional trade by promoting value addition, development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and engagement of private sector in the EAC. In her role, she supports the creation of enabling framework and opportunities for the manufacture and trade of safe and quality assured manufactured products.  

    Eng. Gache has worked for the Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenya Power and Lighting Company, Geothermal Development Company and the East African Community Secretariat (EAC). She holds a Bsc. (Hons) Mechanical Engineering from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) Operations Management and Research from the University of Nairobi. She is a Registered Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya and Corporate Member of the Engineers Board of Kenya

    Eng. Florah Kamanja has over fifteen years of experience working in the Energy Sector. She is currently the Capital Planning & Energy Planning Manager in Business Development Department at KenGen. Eng. Florah has vast experience in Project appraisal, Project Management, Consultancy services supervision, Value for Money Analysis, Public Private Partnerships (PPP), Energy Resource Assessment, Energy Planning, Energy forecasting and Strategy formulation, hydropower and geothermal Power plants Maintenance and Operation. She is a member of the Least Cost Power Development Plan Committee in the Kenyan Energy Sector. 

    Eng. Florah holds a MSc in Nuclear Engineering, BSc. In Mechanical Engineering and MBA in Finance Management, she holds a certificate in Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and solar PV installation. She is a council member and the chairperson women engineers committee at the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, a Professional Engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya.   

    Eng. Florah Kamanja is the 2023 African Queen of Energy Professional technical award winner recognized for her role in mentorship and her role in driving power generation in the energy sector. Sheforshe mentorship program is her brainchild.

    Eng. Cedric Obonyo is an Ordinary Council Member and Professional Engineer of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. He is a Civil Engineer from Busia County with bias to Highway and Pavements materials. He is also a Project Management Professional and a member of the AAK.  

    He is currently an Assistant Director/Principal Engineer at the Kenya Roads Board. 

    He has over 15 years’ experience having graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2010.   

    He has worked in the road sector ever since commencing training and been involved in design and implementation of numerous major infrastructure projects in the country rising from inspector level to Resident Engineer Level.  

    He has moreover participated immensely in the growth of IEK with membership in the Events and Functions Committee and was involved in the formation of Capital Branch at the inception stages. He is also very involved in ACEK and is a member of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Kenya – Future Leaders, 

    where was vital in the transformation of the association from YPF to ACEK-FL.

    Eng. Annette Ingaiza is an Ordinary Council Member. She is a Corporate Member of IEK and a Civil Engineer (Civil Engineering, University of Nairobi, 2014). She has a post-graduate MSc. (Transportation Engineering, University of Nairobi) and boasts 10 years working experience. She currently works at Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA), where she holds the position of Senior Engineer.

    She has had the opportunity to mentor students and Graduate Engineers. She has actively participated in multiple webinars organized by the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. She is an eloquent, organized, analytical young engineer with managerial, personal, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. ’ She strongly support creativity and innovation and always welcome any innovative ideas that I know will open doors of opportunities.   She is also an excellent problem solver and resource manager with integrity, commitment to producing results, and a strong passion for continuous professional development.

    He holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering (UoN), and MSc in Process Engineering & Energy Technology (Hochschule Bremerhaven, Bremen).

    Eng. Abdulrahman Guyo, the current Chairperson of North Eastern Branch of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya,   was a founding member of the North Eastern Branch and served as the inaugural Hon. Secretary of the branch.  

    Eng. Guyo is a Civil Engineer with over 20 years experience in Roads and Water Engineering. 

    He holds a BSc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi, a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and a Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya. .  

    His experience spans planning, design, project delivery, contract management and road infrastructure management.

    She is currently the Head of Capital Projects at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology. Prior to this, she worked in the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Kenya as a WASH expert. She holds a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi, is a continuing Master’s student in Water Resources Engineering at the University of Nairobi and a Post-Graduate Diploma I holder in Project Management (DeKUT).     EEng. Changole has over ten years of experience in the renewable energy sector particularly in operations and maintenance in the geothermal energy sector.

    Dr. Eng. Damaris is a Fellow member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and a professional member of the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). She is a CPA finalist and currently, works as a Lecturer at the University of Nairobi, ’ Department of Civil and Construction Engineering.     He is currently serves as the Chief Engineer, Technical Services at the Kenya Power and Lighting Company – Western Region   He has a proven track record of leading and commissioning major oil and gas projects.

He is currently undertaking Master of Science degree in Project Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Chemical and Process Engineering from Moi University.

    He is a Certified Project Management Professional with Project Management Institute and a Certified Energy Manager with Association of Energy Engineers.  He has a proven track record of leading and commissioning major electrical projects.

    Eng. Albrian Mueke Maondu is a Senior Engineer, Infrastructure Directorate with Kenya Pipeline Company Ltd, where he is involved in Design and Implementation of key projects in Oil and Gas sector. Eng. Albrian has also worked with as Process Engineer in Technology, Operations and Development Division at Kenya Petroleum Refineries Ltd..

    Eng. Albrian is a penchant for change with extensive experience in Chemical and Process Engineering, and brings onboard extensive technical and leadership skills to IEK Council.
